The company was acquired by the French company Groupe Lactalis in 1992. Now a subsidiary of Lactalis, the company still has its headquarters in Buffalo. Rebranding

Its branding is in the process of being absorbed into the Galbani brand which is also part of the Lactalis Group. On September 6, 2013, it was announced in the Buffalo News, that the "Sorrento Cheese name ages out as owner rebrands product as Galbani."

Company structure

Estimated annual sales are total $177.3 million and the company has about 600 employees.

Sorrento is a corporate sponsor of Italian street festivals in several cities around the United States.

Environmental pollution

Sorrento Lactilis Inc. was fined $315,000 by the Justice Department for exceeding the allowable pollutant discharge limits from its Nampa, Idaho factory into Mason Creek, a tributary of the Boise River. Sorrento's pollutant discharge levels violated the terms of their wastewater permit between 2005 and 2008. In assessing the financial penalty, the DOJ noted that in addition to exceeding permitted pollutant discharge levels, Sorrento repeatedly failed to properly self-monitor and make timely reports of excess pollutant levels.
